Abu Ahmad Ubaydallah ibn Abdallah ibn Tahir (c. 838 – 913), also known as Abdallah ibn Tahir, was a Tahirid official and military officer. Like his cousin, Muhammad ibn Tahir, he also served as governor of Baghdad, holding the office three times: from 867 to 869, from 879 to 885, and from 889 to 891.[1]
Biography
During the 9th century, the Tahirids were allied with the Hidden Ones and their protection was considered to be the only thing standing between Alamut and a full-scale attack.[2] However, hoping to avoid another civil war in the Abbasid Caliphate, Muhammad made a deal with the Order of the Ancients, giving them Alamut in exchange for the guarantee that the pretender to the throne, Abu 'Abdallah, would not press his claim.[3]
Abdallah ibn Tahir was thus contacted by his cousin and asked to void all terms the Tahirids had with the Hidden Ones.[4] Abdallah complied, removing the Tahirids' protection of Alamut and leaving the Hidden Ones' fortress vulnerable to an attack.[5]
