Chasqui (translated as relay person, mail or postilion) were couriers for the Inca Empire. They were tasked with delivering messages throughout the empire. Chasqui were able freeruners and ran up to 240 kilometres a day. As part of their chasqui training they were thought how to read quipu; knotted rope that held messages for them to interpret and deliver.

The chasqui had a network of roads and rope bridges for their use, interconnected throughout the empire, with stopping points, called tambos where chasqui would pass their messages to other runners.

History[edit | edit source]

During the XVI century Spanish conquest of the Inca Empire, the chasqui saw much work, due to emperor Manco's campaigns. In 1536, Spanish Templars conspired with traitorous chasqui to take the emperor's life. Quila, a female chasqui denigrated by her peers, discovered the plot hidden in a quipu. Attempting to save the emperor's life, she obtained help from Don Gonzalez Pardo, an Assassin who had previously failed to prevent Emperor Atahualpa's death.
