During the season of fall in 1191, after dealing with the inner strife within the Assassin Brotherhood, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad leads an assault on Acre's harbor after learning of the Knights Templar's plan to migrate to the island of Cyprus, under the orders of the new Templar Grand Master, Armand Bouchart. Once there, he encountered the Templar Maria Thorpe, De Sable's former steward, and also acted as his decoy during Altaïr's past travels. After subduing Maria, Altaïr makes her his prisoner (after refusing to cooperate). As members of the assassin order take her away, Altaïr learned from one of his allies that the Templar's have recently purchased the island of Cyprus from King Richard, after subduing and imprisoning the island's former emperor, Isaac Comnenus. Suspecting that the Templar's intentions go beyond governance, Altaïr migrated to Cyprus, along with Maria as his prisoner.

The two arrived at Limassol, and as they made their way off of the harbor, they encountered Alexander, the leader of the resistance in Limassol, and also a contact of the assassins. After scouting the city, Altaïr discussed his plans with Alexander. When asked where the Templars were stationed, Alexander pointed him to Limassol Castle. Alexander told Altaïr of a plan to get him inside the castle without anyone noticing. Speaking with a resistance spy, Osman, the man told Altaïr that he will try to lower the patrols stationed inside the castle. The man also made mention of an Archive that is being used by the Templars. When Altaïr asked Osman who could give him more information, he made mention of Frederick the Red, a brute of a man who trained the Templar Knights inside the Castle. After their discussion, Altaïr returned to the resistance safehouse to give Osman some time.

After a short while, Osman was successful in his ploy, which granted Altaïr a way in. Making his way inside, he spotted Frederick training his men at the courtyard. He fought the knight, and managed to defeat him, but Altaïr was unable to learn anything from him. With his target dead, Altaïr leaves the castle and made his return to the safehouse, but as he left the castle, he was greeted by the sight of the safehouse burning down. Making his way to the area, he inspects the area for Maria, but was unable to locate her, meaning she is still alive. Leaving the district, Altaïr made his way to the nearby church, and sees Armand Bouchart announce the death of Frederick. He demanded the people that they bring the murderer to him, but was only replied with silence. Angered, Armand granted his men full-authority until the conflict is resolved. Osman tried to reason with him, but was silenced by Bouchart through the means of death.

As the crowd and Altaïr looked on, Maria made her way to Bouchart, pleading for assistance, and also informed him of the Assassin's presence. Bouchart was then suspicious of Maria's means of escape, remarking that this event was her second miraculous escape from the assassins. Denying the claim, Maria pleaded his case to Bouchart, but was turned down, as the Templar ordered his men to take Maria away, Rescuing Maria, who blamed him for her current predicament, Altaïr took her to his care, and made their way to the harbor to consult with Alexander.
