Zechariah (1st century BCE – 1st century BCE or AD) was a Jewish kohen[1] who, with his wife Elizabeth, was the father of Saint John the Baptist, a major religious figure who baptized Jesus of Nazareth. After his death, he was supposedly buried in Venice, where the Chiesa di San Zaccaria was dedicated to him was built in the 9th century. Alleged locations of his tomb include the Gandzasar Monastery in Nagorno Karabakh, Yad Avshalom, the Great Mosque of Aleppo, and the Valley of Jehoshaphat.[2]
