The Vanir were a race of Isu who lived in the European region of Scandinavia. The Vanir were from Vanaheim, one of the Nine Realms of Norse mythology. At some point during the Isu Era, they met and came into conflict with the neighboring Æsir in what became known as the Æsir–Vanir War, which only ended after Freyja entered into a political marriage to the Asgardian king Odin.[1] Soon after, the Vanir were nearly completely absorbed into their rivals. After the Great Catastrophe, the Vanir were revered in the Germanic and Norse religions as gods who were associated with health, fertility, wisdom, and the ability to see the future.[2]

Members

Heimdall and Odin were said to possibly be part of the Vanir, as well as Freyr, Freyja, and Njörðr. The Vanir also included all wives of the Norse gods, most of whom were jötnar.[3][4]
