Tiberius (Latin: Tiberius Caesar Dīvī Augustī Fīlius Augustus; 42 BCE – 37 CE) was the second Roman Emperor, reigning from 14 CE until his death. Born as Tiberius Claudius Nero, he bore the name Tiberius Julius Caesar before becoming Emperor.

During his reign, the Castra Praetoria was erected by order of the Praetorian Prefect Sejanus to house the nine cohorts of the Praetorian Guard, the influential Imperial guard.[1] Tiberius had also made the act of praising Brutus into a crime worthy of death.[2]

Legacy

In 1794, friends of Georges Danton printed an article and several caricatures comparing Maximilien de Robespierre to Tiberius due to them both being considered bloodthirsty dictators.[2]
