Templar Coins were collectible items that the Assassin Altaïr ibn La-Ahad collected during his journey to Cyprus. Although apparently useless to Altaïr himself, Templar coins translated to points that could be used to buy upgrades in the Animus virtual machine.
They came in bronze, silver, and gold forms, each with increasing worth, and could be found scattered in various locations around Cyprus, or in the possession of higher-ranking foes such as Guard Captains, pirates, or duelists.
The coins, like other items that were obtained throughout the story, were given a "hologram" indicator of sorts above them by the Animus, in order to make them easier for Altaïr to find. As such, this gave them the appearance that they were approximately half of the size of him.
Trivia
- Templar coins took the place of the flags of the Kingdom in Assassin's Creed.
