Armand Bouchart (unknown - 1193) was the Grand Master of the Knights Templar, succeeding Robert de Sable. He purchased the island of Cyprus, and brought it under Templar control.

Biography

Armand bought Cyprus from King Richard the Lionheart, shortly after he had captured it from Isaac Comnenus.

Upon arriving in Cyprus, Armand established his own rule alongside his fellow Templars and lieutenants: Moloch, Shalim, Shahar, and Frederick the Red. Together, they sought to locate and evacuate all the artifacts hidden within the sacred Templar Archive.

After the death of Frederick, Armand made a public announcement, threatening to tighten the security on the island. He also murdered Osman in the middle of his speech, sending a warning to the Cypriot Resistance.

Shortly afterwards, the Templar Maria Thorpe pleaded with Armand for her safety from the Assassins, though the Grand Master only accused her of conspiring against their Order, and she was taken away. Armand then left for Kyrenia, where he would meet with more of his allies.

As Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad infiltrated Buffavento Castle, he overheard Armand and Shalim discussing their plan to send a bag to Alexander of Limassol, prompting the Assassin to suspect Alexander of treachery.

By the time Armand had completed his plans and evacuated all of the Cyprus artifacts, Altaïr caught up to him and the two dueled, resulting finally in Armand's death within the Templar Archive.

Final Words

Altaïr strikes Armand
  • Armand: You are a... a credit to your creed, Altaïr.
  • Altaïr: And you have strayed from yours.
  • Armand: Not strayed, expanded. The world is more complicated than most dare admit. And if you, Assassin, if you knew more than how to murder, you might understand this...
  • Altaïr: Save your lecture on virtue for yourself, and die knowing I will never let the Apple fall into any hands but my own!
  • Armand: Keep it close, Altaïr. You will come to the same conclusions we did... in time...

Trivia

  • Historically, it was Robert de Sable who bought Cyprus from King Richard I. Armand merely served under Robert's reign, as the latter was still Grand Master of the Templars at the time.
  • Cyprus was only headed by 14 to 20 Templar soldiers alongside Armand, while Robert de Sable was the general of the mainland forces.
