Snipers, also known as Gunners, were specially trained soldiers who were present on rooftops, sugar plantations and ships. Snipers guarded the area from above, and they were used in executions.

When engaged in close combat, they would move backwards to create space to aim and use their guns, and in close range, the snipers were no more skilled than normal guards, and could be easily dispatched with a counter-attack. They could also be used to shoot soldiers, by using the latter as human shields, or through the use of berserk darts.
