The Silphion Farm was a farm estate east of Cyrene in Cyrenaica during the 1st century BCE. It was chiefly used to farm for Silphium, a medicinal plant that largely flourished and farmed in the region by the Roman Republic.
History
In 47 BCE, the gladiator Polymestor was granted refuge at the farm by the residents after he fled from the Gladiator School south of the city, as his Lanista employer unwilling to grant him his freedom. Knowing that the lanista would send his men after him, Polymestor left the farm after some time, unwilling to risk the lives of the residents. Sure enough, after Polymestor's departure, the Lanista's men massacred the farm residents when they refused to disclose Polymestor's whereabouts.[1]
Some time later, the Lanista hired the services of the Medjay Bayek and sent him to the farm to investigate, hoping he would uncover more information that had been missed out by his own men. Bayek investigated the massacre and located a hidden wooden cellar, where he found a note hinting Polymestor's location at a nearby fishing village.[1]
