Searesbyrig was an Anglo-Saxon settlement in Wiltshire, England. It was close in proximity to the town of Wiltun.
History
In 871, after the Battle of Bedwyn, the Viking Geirmund Hel-hide and his company, the Hel-hides, arrived at Searesbyrig, which had recently been conquered by both forces led by Guthrum and Halfdan Ragnarsson. There, the Hel-hide built up fortifications while Viking leaders Halfdan and Guthrum discussed their next move against King Alfred, who was stationed with his soldiers nearby at Wiltun.[1]
