Samos is an island of Greece situated in the Aegean Sea with a capital of the same name. It is part of the Southern Sporades alongside Kos. It is famous for having been the birthplace and home of the Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras.
History
Some time during the sixth century BCE, Pythagoras and his protégé Kyros of Zarax were walking through Samos. When they passed a blacksmith, Pythagoras suddenly rushed inside, starting an experiment with different hammers and anvils. The two then took the tools back to Pythagoras' villa to continue the experiment.
