Saint George (died 303), also George of Lydda, was a Cappadocian Greek member of the Roman army and Praetorian Guard for Roman emperor Diocletian, who sentenced him to death for refusing to recant his Christian faith.

Legacy

By the 870s, alleged pieces of his personal set of armor were scattered in Anglo-Saxon England, later recovered by the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir after raiding several river-bound locations.[1]
