Proofreading. I'm not sure I revised the sentence correctly, but there wasn't enough contextual info for me to understand clearly what it meant.

Eivor stares at the River Avon.

The River Avon is a river that flows around Hampshire south of Gloucestershire.

History

Viking Age

In 872, the Vikings' leaders Halfdan Ragnarsson and Guthrum met with King Alfred of Wessex after the Battle of Meretun to discuss a truce. The peace stipulated that the Great Heathen Army would be given silver and gold in return for the assurance that no Dane would cross the Avon River to invade.[1]

Within six years, the army returned led solely by Guthrum, with the aid of jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir, her allies, and the last Son of Ragnar Ubba Ragnarsson. However, along the Avon River and near its blockade, Ubba and his men were ambushed and killed by Lord Odda under Alfred's orders.[2] To confirm the truth, Eivor went to investigate and found her friend's corpse and evidence of Alfred and Reeve Goodwin's role in his demise.[3]
