Pineios is a river flowing from Thessaly, Greece, to Peloponnese. It's named after the Thessalian river-god,Peneios.

History

Mythology

According to Greek mythology, Pineios was along with Alpheios River, the river which aided the hero Herakles to clean up the stable of king Augeias of Elis as part of his tasks.[1]

Influence

During the Peloponnesian War, the Peneios Camp in Elis was named after the river.[2]
