Antikles (died 420s BCE) was a Greek man who lived in the Sacred Plains of Demeter in Attika, Greece during the Peloponnesian War.
Biography
At some point during the war, Antikles was one of the two suitors, alongside Pelenos, who sought to marry Leda, a farmer and the daughter of Leda and Barnabas, a captain of the Adrestia. Leda had inherited her late mother's farm. Believing both Pelonos and Antikles to be only after the estate and wealth, Leda rejected them numerous times, eventually resorting to hiding in a cave near the farm.[1]
Eventually, men Leda believed to have been hired by Pelenos or Antikles to kill her found her there. She slew them, and afterwards met the Spartan misthios Kassandra and Barnabas, who were looking for Leda's mother. They agreed to help Leda deal with the suitors, and followed her to the Sanctuary of Eleusis, wherein they killed both Antikles and Pelenos.[1]
Trivia
