A parrying dagger paired with the Small-hilted Sword

A parrying dagger is a small weapon held in the off-hand for defensive purposes and used in conjunction with a larger sword.

History

During the Seven Years' War, Assassin turned Templar Shay Patrick Cormac paired parrying daggers with his main weapon, dual-wielding both while in combat. While at times impractical these daggers shared a common aesthetic with the swords they were paired with.[1]
