Orion was a Giant and a son of Poseidon in the Greek mythology, supposedly born in Boeotia.

According to the story, Orion angered the goddess Artemis for seducing her follower Opis. The goddess' revenge took the form of a scorpion and both the creature and Orion were turned into constellations.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War the Spartan misthios Kassandra explored a cave said to Orion's tomb in Oropos Heights, Boeotia.[1]
