The Old City was the ancient city that laid the foundation of the city of Uldar, Gullnámar, in Svartálfaheimr. During the warlord Surtr's invasion, his Muspel force took control of the district and forced their dwarven captives to search for any valuables under Surtr's son Glöð's supervision.
History
In Eivor Varinsdottir's visions of Odin's time in Svartalfheim, the Æsir lord Havi traveled to the Old City with the newly reconfigured Sunstone and found Fritjof and Tyra hiding in plain sight. Together, they made their way to the front of the Vault of the Ancients and started to work on opening it. Using the Sunstone, Havi configured light beams onto the stone while the dwarves worked on preparing the mechanism. Although the device started to work, it malfunctioned. Starting over again, Fritjof's father and scholar Einar arrived as he was chased by Muspel guards.[1]
While the dwarves worked on the mechanism, Havi held back the incoming Muspel warriors. They all succeeded in their tasks as the guards were dealt with, and the vault opened. Inside, they all became shocked to see Ivaldi, who was thought to have been killed by the Muspels. Ivaldi explained he dismantled the relic that Fritjof found as they all made their way to escape. They were stopped by Surtr's wife Sinmara, but Havi fought her off while the dwarves escaped. Again, she was bested by Havi and fled.[1]
While at the Old City, Havi saw another light puzzle and solved it, which garnered him a Book of Knowledge, from which he learned a technique to apply a knockback effect to his arrows upon impact.[2] He also found a room in a walkway above and found a page of the heroic saga, "Gæfuleysi and the Belching Giant."[3]
