- "Yes, you have your ideals. But I will have a nation."
- ―Oda Nobunaga.[src]
Oda Nobunaga (23 June 1534 – 21 June 1582) was a powerful daimyō in Japan during the late 16th century who initiated the unification of Japan near the end of the Sengoku period.
When the Assassins made contact with Oda, he was sympathetic to their cause and promised an alliance once he had unified his country. However, after he came into possession of a Sword of Eden, the possibility of an alliance was compromised.
He was subsequently killed by Yamauchi Taka on 21 June 1582, acting on behalf of the Assassin Hattori Hanzō, when Nobunaga was betrayed and attacked by his vassal Akechi Mitsuhide in Honnō-ji temple in Kyoto. Taka retrieved the Sword and brought it to Liu Yan, who transported it out of Japan.
