Middletun was a small town in the bogs of Grantebridgescirein central England that existed during the late 9th century. By the early 870s, it had fallen into disrepair, becoming nearly abandoned. In 873, the Viking jarlskona Soma, after having been expelled from Grantebridge, briefly quartered her troops in the small settlement. Following Soma's successful retaking of the county from Palatinus Wigmund, Middeltun saw a major revitalization, becoming a significant trade hub.[1]
