The Mercenary
The Mercenary
"Clanless and self-sufficient, the Mercenary only takes sides for those who pay. Money is his single motivation and only the richest have seen his Short sword in action... Generally twice: first as a partner, then as a victim of a higher bidder."
Ubisoft description.

The Mercenary (real name: Rocco Tiepolo) was an unlockable Animi Avatar used by Abstergo Industries to train recruits in their Animi Training Program. His primary weapon was a short sword. He became available when a recruit reached Level 45.

Unique Moves

The Mercenary had several unique moves:

(Low Profile, Back)

The Mercenary approaches his target from behind and grabs them their left arm. Spinning them round, he impales them in the stomach with his short sword twice before pushing his victim to the floor.

(Low Profile, Front)

The Mercenary approaches his target from the front and grips them by their right shoulder, before headbutting them. While they are stunned from the blow, he runs their abdomen through with his short sword twice, before sheathing it as he watches his victim fall back.

(High Profile, Back)

The Mercenary runs behind his target, grabbing them by their neck, before throwing them to the floor behind him to his left. As his victim attempts to pick themselves off the ground, the Mercenary stabs them in the lower back, severing their spine.

(High Profile, Front)

The Mercenary runs up to his target with his short sword in both of his hands, before impaling them in the stomach. He then lifts them up with the sword, and proceeds to throw them off the end it, his victim landing face forward into the ground with a deep wound.

(Bench Kill)

The Mercenary grabs his target and holds them in a headlock with his right arm. He then unsheathes his sword and stabs them in the stomach twice, before throwing his victim's limp body to the floor.

(Aerial Kill)

The Mercenary jumps from a rooftop onto his target, pulling out his short sword while in mid-air, before stabbing his target in the centre of the back as he lands, severing their spine.

Trivia

  • The crest on the Mercenary's cape is that of the Sforza house, possibly implying that he is somehow related to them or once worked for them.
  • Sometimes when doing an aerial assassination, the Mercenary doesn't pull out his short sword, which is the result of an animation glitch.
  • His short sword looks very much like a shortened version of the Schiavona.
