Ma'bad was an Iraqi man who lived in a village east of Baghdad during the 9th century.

Biography

At some point in the 860s, Ma'bad and his fellow villagers welcomed Chinese merchants while he concocted a plan to steal one of their wares to sell for a profit between him and his cohorts. However, his plan backfired when his cohorts stole a vase containing a toxic aroma which was accidentally released into the village, resulting in most of the villagers either dying or abandoning their home.[1]

When the Alamut Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq passed by the village, Ma'bad spoke to him about the village being plagued by an evil spirit. However, after conducting an investigation, Basim discovered the truth and informed Ma'bad of what had actually happened. Realizing that he was indirectly responsible for the tragedy that had befallen his village, Ma'bad was left alone to reflect on his actions.[1]

Behind the scenes

The name of Ma'bad, a character introduced in Assassin's Creed: Mirage, is likely a play on "my bad", reflecting his role as the one responsible for the curse which affected his village.
