The Kite Shield was one of the personal heavy shields owned by Wigmund, ealdorman of Grantebridgescire, England and a Palatinus of the Order of the Ancients' Wardens of Wealth sect during the 9th century. This shield was so ornate, it was believed that Wigmund would be more likely to use it to eat roast pig off of rather than for its intended defensive purpose.
Fearing that it would be stolen for its value, Wigmund later had it locked in a chest in Wandrie settlement, though the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan retrieved it for herself during her travels.[1]

| One of Ealdorman Wigmund's prized treasures. He was more likely to eat roasted pork off this shield than carry it into battle. A pity, for it might have served him well. | |||||||||
