The Kingdom of Navarre was a Basque kingdom that occupied lands on either side of the western Pyrenees, alongside the Atlantic Ocean between present-day Spain and France.

During the Renaissance, the kingdom was led by John III. In 1507, John sent his brother-in-law Cesare Borgia to retake the Viana Castle from the Count of Lerin and the Castilians aiding him.[1] The siege would end in a Navarrese defeat, with the assassination of Cesare by Assassin Ezio Auditore.[2]
