Alva was a Viking warrior of the Raven Clan,[1] as well as a Sage of the Isu Vejovis.[2]

Biography

In the 870s, Alva led a raid in Readingum. After telling Einar to take their haul back to their longship, she infiltrated Readingum Abbey, where she found a monk who offered barrels of their beer in exchange for their safety, which Alva accepted.[1]

Returning to Ravensthorpe, Alva was welcomed back by Eivor Varinsdottir. Eivor said that Basim Ibn Ishaq had been insisting that she locate more of the Hidden Ones' bureaus in England and that she had found a lead in London but that Alva should take a look first. The clan then celebrated the successful raid with a feast, with Alva leaving for London the next morning.[1]

She infiltrated the bureau, finding a metal-grated doorway between two lit torches under a large stylized ⟨A⟩. A figure behind her positioned a blade to her back, told her not to move, and asked her who she was. Alva explained that Basim had asked her clan to find him, to which the Hidden One responded by removing their blade and allowing her to turn around. The Hidden One said that if Alva was looking for a specific blade like theirs, it was likely to be in the hands of The Connection, a member of the Order of the Ancients who acted as a go-between, collecting branches of the Order as well as the blades of the Hidden Ones killed.[1]

Alva asked how she could find The Connection, and the Hidden One brought her to a book-filled room with two other Hidden Ones and a wooden board containing information on members of the Order, including The Connection. Alva's thinking was interrupted by a large armoured man behind another gate, who mocked the Hidden Ones and ordered six guards with a battering ram to come in. The two groups fought, but Alva and the Hidden Ones prevailed. The Hidden Ones decided to leave the bureau and remove their most valuable documents, telling Alva the location of one diagram she would find of use and asking her to lock up before leaving.[1]

While making sure the bureau would be inaccessible to other, Alva discovered a chamber of Isu design, with a circular podium from which a hologram of Vejovis appeared and addressed a "Spectator", saying that they should locate the blade by finding his Sage and that with the message transmitted, they should destroy the chamber. Alva touched a panel nearby, starting a countdown before running out of the bureau and falling to the ground outside due to rumbling caused by the technology collapsing the passage behind her.[1]

Alva found a page planted inside her jacket, it being a letter from The Connection describing a meeting in London, as well as a time and a place: below a clocktower at a market stand. Alva positioned herself on a ledge, hoping to take the opportunity to assassinate him, and when she saw him move within range underneath her, she dropped down and swung her bearded axe, chopped his head clean off.[1]

Legacy

In the 2020s, the security guard Joey relived Alva's memories and experienced a conversation between her and The Connection in a Memory Corridor, where The Connection said he was glad Alva was his killer because his death was only a setback for the Order and revealed the location of the blade.[1]
