John Elliotson

John Elliotson (1791 – 1868) was an author, teacher and renowned doctor in London during the Victorian era. He was also a member of the British Rite of the Templar Order.

Biography

Medical career and joining the Templars

"He was a brilliant heart specialist, until he became obsessed with phrenology and mesmerism. It ruined his career."

Elliotson was born to a prominent chemist and apothecary and attended Jesus College in Cambridge. Initially a talented heart specialist, he eventually became obsessed with the pseudoscience of mesmerism. He performed mesmerist experiments on the sisters Elizabeth and June Okey, who he believed could see diseases in others.

These practices brought an end to Elliotson's respected position within the medical world, and although he attempted to salvage his career through studies of phrenology, his practice declined to the point that he was virtually destitute. At this point, the Templar Grand Master Crawford Starrick recognized Elliotson's talent in medicine and offered him work, something the doctor gladly agreed to. Elliotson himself viewed Starrick as "humanity's great architect" and believed that mankind would benefit from his strong rule over London.

Soothing Syrup

In order to maintain the Templar grip on London, Starrick had Elliotson produce a highly intoxicating tonic known as Starrick's Soothing Syrup. Consisting of datura and opium, the syrup rendered many of the city's residents mentally weak and subservient.

When the Assassin Jacob Frye learned that Elliotson's was behind the syrup production, he killed him.
