Jerusalem (Arabic: القدس) is a city located between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea. It is an accessible location in Assassin's Creed, and plays a part in many of the main storyline missions.

History

It is known as the "Holy City" to Christians, Muslims, and Jews, and "Outremer" to Templars. The largest city in the Holy Land, it houses exquisite mosques and cathedrals, denoting the contrast of cultures here. Two major Templar structures were found here, the Templar Tower (circa 1190), and Solomon's Temple, a structure under the city where the Apple was kept, inside the Ark of the Covenant.

In 1190, Altaïr visited the city twice. During his first visit, he infiltrated a noble's villa, where he attacked Lord Basilisk and captured the third key to the Temple of the Sand. His next step took him into the Templar Tower, where he killed its Master and took a map to the Temple of the Sand. During his second visit, he freed the Chalice, an artifact he was looking for, from the Templars' control.

Altaïr returned to the city in 1191, first failing to retrieve the Templar treasure from under the Dome of the Rock, and three more times as part of his redemption.
