Java is an island of Indonesia, bordered by the Indian Ocean on the south and the Java Sea on the north.
History
From at least the 1600s, the Dutch had a foothold in Java and held influence over the local sultanates.[1] The island's inhabitants were renowned by their usage of petroleum to waterproof their ships, which in 1725 led the members of the Zhang Wei Union to consider making a stop in Java en route to the Philippines, in order to acquire large quantities of petroleum necessary for the production of Greek fire.[2]
During the Seven Years' War, the Colonial Templar Shay Cormac sent spies to the island to aid the British Empire in undermining the Dutch influence.[3] Successful in this attempt, Shay sent additional spies to continue pressuring the Dutch.[4]
