Ingólfr Arnarson (c. 849 – c. 910) was a Norse explorer who became the first permanent settler of Iceland alongside his wife Hallveig Fróðadóttir and foster brother Hjörleifr Hróðmarsson.

Biography

By 889, some years after establishing the settlement that would become Reykjavík, Ingólfr's group struggled with the cold winters and lingering blood feuds. As such, he requested aid from King Harald Fairhair to send supplies and men in order to bring stability to the settlement, a request which the King accepted.[1]

When the Raven Clan's jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir visited the new Kingdom of Norway, King Harald told her of Ingólfr's perils and his plan to aid them. He attempted to get Eivor and her adoptive brother Sigurd Styrbjornsson to assist the endeavor by delivering the supplies, though she turned down his offer.[1]
