Heralds are men who tell the populations of cities about recent news, laws, taxes, executions, etc. They came about due to the lack of an effective means of information transfer, and were precursors to today's communication system.

Heralds will appear on the map as long as Ezio's notoriety is not at 0%.

In Assassin's Creed II, if Ezio commits crimes, the heralds will begin to tell people to beware of a mysterious man. Ezio c

an bribe these heralds with 500 florins to decrease his notoriety by 50%. But remember, a herald can only be bribed once.

If you use Eagle Vision, Heralds glow in blue if they are announcing normal events. If they are telling people about you (mostly lies and slander), then they are seen glowing red. They are also on the map as icons.

Trivia

  • The money that you bribe the herald with can be stolen back from him, however, doing so will increase Ezio's notoriety slightly.
  • Another option is to kill the herald without alerting the guards. You need to kill them to get money after you have used him.
  • In the original Assassins Creed, there are people who attempt to convince people to join the Crusader/Muslim armies, they function alot like Heralds, although they are not referred to as such and are purely aesthetic.
  • When using Eagle Vision, the Heralds appear blue even when Notorious, which is strange because Heralds speak negatively about Ezio.
  • Strangly, if you pickpocket them even without bribing them first they will not fight back, and they will simply run away.
  • If you ever try punching them you will notice that its is harder to knock them out than normal civilians.
