"A corrupt nobleman underneath the mask, the Harlequin performs acts of terror among the people to further the Templar cause. The grin never leaving his face, he always keeps his dual Daggers at the ready...in case anyone is in need of an encore performance."
Ubisoft description.

The Harlequin (real name: Cahin) is an exclusive multiplayer character featured in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, who uses two rondel daggers as his primary weapons. Another multiplayer character, known as the Hellequin, is confirmed to be his sister.

Description

"Behind the gaudy costume and twisted smile lies the soul of a merciless assassin. You call yourself the Harlequin. Your victims will call you a walking nightmare."
―GameStop

The Harlequin is available via pre-order on Gamestop.com, PLAY.com, HMV.co.uk and Ubisoft.com. He was also available in the HMV Exclusive Edition and the Limited Codex Edition of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and is included in the The Da Vinci Disappearance DLC for those that previously did not have the character. A jack-in-the box of the Harlequin was also available to those who pre-ordered the Collector's Edition of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood from GameStop.

On 16 November 2010, the gaming website Kongregate held a contest for a copy of Brotherhood, which, to enter, you simply had to complete Level 3 of Ultimate Assassin 2. One lucky winner would win the game with the exclusive Harlequin character and an Xbox 360 to play it on, and several other contestants would receive a copy of the game with the exclusive character.

Unique Moves

(Low Profile, Front)

The Harlequin neatly stabs his target under their chest, before flipping over their back while stabbing his victim in the neck, and then puncturing their right lung. Afterwards, the attack leaves his victim incapacitated and internally bleeding to death.

(Low Profile, Back)

From behind, the Harlequin stabs his target's waist, making them fall. Right as they begin to fall, he stabs them in the crevices of their neck with his daggers, one before the other, causing his victim to go limp. Their lifeless body then falls to the ground as he withdraws his daggers.

(High Profile, Back)

The Harlequin runs forward towards his target from behind, before performing a cartwheel and kicking his target in the side of the head, knocking them to the floor. As his victim lies on the ground, he quickly stabs his victim in the chest with one of his rondel daggers before pulling it out and storing it at his belt.

(High Profile, Front)

The Harlequin runs forward and jumps on his target, pushing them down in the process, before pulling out his two daggers and maniacally stabbing his victim in their torso several times. From the rapid movement of his attack, his target is pulled up slightly when they are punctured by his daggers, before their dead body slumps back to the floor after the final stab.

(Bench Kill)

The Harlequin walks up to his seated target and promptly stabs them in the stomach. As his target bends over, the Harlequin removes his dagger and stabs both of them in between his target's shoulder blades, before bounding over their back and hastily pulling his rondel daggers out. His victim stands upright, but then collapses forward, dead.

(Aerial Kill)

The Harlequin leaps from a rooftop, removing his daggers while in mid-air, before landing on his target and rapidly stabbing their torso in a similar fashion to his High Profile frontal animation. The Harlequin then stands up, storing his daggers away and leaving his victim on the ground to die.

Singleplayer locations

Ezio delivers a finishing blow to a Harlequin.

After downloading The Da Vinci Disappearance DLC, five Harlequins can be found at different parts of the city in Singleplayer, performing a handstand. All of these Harlequins are found near aqueducts or bodies of water. If approached, they will attack on sight. Once all five Harlequins have been beaten up while unarmed, making sure that they do not fall into the water nearby, the player will gain the 'Clowning Around' silver trophy (PS3) or achievement worth 30G (Xbox 360).

The Harlequins can be found in the following locations:

  • Near the Ponte Sant'Angelo, to the east along the river's edge, on a staircase leading out of from the water.
  • To the west of a doctor at the top of the map near the Piazza del Popolo, by the river on a staircase leading out from the water.
  • Behind the Rosa in Fiore, on a staircase leading out of the water, south of the brothel.
  • South of Tiber Island, underneath the Ponte Emilio.
  • Northwest/West of the Barracks, next to a house with a tree near the cliff edge, with the large lake below.

However, sometimes the Harlequins will not be at the locations right away, and you may have to exit and re-enter the area they are supposed to be at for them to appear. Killing a nearby guard or two also appears to help increase their chance of appearance.
