Gerhard von Stantten

Gerhard von Stantten was a Hessian soldier during the American Revolutionary War, in the employ of the British Army, and a devoted member of the Templar Order.

Gerhard stood out in his appetite for war, and with virtually no personality to speak of, he was an unstoppable killing machine that would carry out his orders without ever considering defeat.

In 2012, his genetic memories were used as an Animi Avatar by the entertainment branch of the Templar company Abstergo Industries, to influence the general public via the Animus games console, under the title of the Hessian.

Trivia

  • Gerhard is a German variant of the name Gerard, formed of the Germanic elements ger, gar, meaning "spear", and hard, meaning "brave, bold, hardy". Von Stantten has the German element von, meaning "from".
  • Erudito speculated that von Stantten may have been the Headless Horseman, whom Shay Cormac met in Sleepy Hollow and Ratonhnhaké:ton encountered in the Frontier.
    • Because Gerhard was a Templar and employed by the British Army during the American Revolution, he could not have been encountered Shay Cormac who was a Templar during the Seven Years' War and the Colonial Brotherhood purge unless they meet before Shay allied with the Templars in 1756.
