The Galata Tower (Ottoman Turkish: Galata Kulesi) was a medieval stone tower located in the Galata district of Constantinople, north of the Golden Horn. One of the city's most striking landmarks, it was a high, cone-capped cylinder that dominated the city skyline and afforded a panoramic vista of old Constantinople and its surrounding area.
History
Upon arriving in Constantinople in 1511, Ezio Auditore da Firenze and Yusuf Tazim raced each other to the top of Galata Tower. Using their hookblade, they completed climbing the tower in under a minute.
Later, upon learning one of the Masyaf Keys was stored by Niccolò Polo in the tower, Ezio entered only for the interior to collapse. Fortunately, Ezio was dropped into the caverns below and, within minutes, located the Key.
In 1512, Ezio negotiated with Ahmet to release Sofia Sartor for the Keys. A decoy Sofia was held hostage atop the tower to fool Ezio.[1]
