Fukuyuma Waretsuku (died 1526) was a Japanese pirate and former samurai who served under Taki Choji as his assistant.

Biography

Waretsuku was a former samurai and swordsman who served under a lord alongside Taki Choji, who was a former monk who had been excommunicated. Following their lord's death, Waretsuku and Choji both became rōnins and eventually turned to piracy. Waretsuku became Choji's assistant and followed him and his crew as they raided trading vessels in the East China Sea.[1]

In 1526, Waretsuku was present when he and Choji's crew received the entourage of Zhang Yong, a Ming Empire eunuch and the Templar leader of the Eight Tigers. Zhang Yong had came on behalf of the chieftain Sun to offer tributes, and presented a large box to Choji. Waretsuku was ordered to check the contents and was promptly killed by the yuxiao Beelzebub, who appeared from the box with superhuman strength and snapped his neck.[1]
