Fort George was a military location in southern New York City. It was known by various names through its lifetime, including Fort Amsterdam, Fort James, Fort William, and Fort Anne, the latter three were names of English and British monarchs.
History
The fort was built in 1625 by the Dutch to protect their settlement of New Amsterdam. By the time it became a British property during the 18th century, the fort had went through numerous name changes before finally settling with Fort George[1]
At some point prior to the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War, the Fort fell into the hands of Haytham Kenway's Colonial Rite of the Templar Order and served as their headquarters throughout the conflict.[2]
By the end of the war, the fort was attacked by several French warships acting under orders of Ratonhnhaké:ton, who sought to use the bombardment as a diversion for his assassination attempt on Charles Lee. However, Lee had left and Connor was forced to fight and kill his father instead.[2]
