Fort George was a military location in southern New York City. It was known by various names through its lifetime, including Fort Amsterdam, Fort James, Fort William, and Fort Anne.
At some point prior to the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War, the Fort fell into the hands of Haytham Kenway's Colonial Rite of the Templar Order and served as their headquarters throughout the conflict.
By the end of the war, the fort was attacked by several French warships acting under orders of Ratonhnhaké:ton, who sought to use the bombardment as a diversion for his assassination attempt on Charles Lee. However, Lee had left and Connor was forced to fight and kill his father instead.
Alternate timeline
In an alternate timeline, the fort was occupied by King Washington's troops, who built a gunpowder supply tower on the southwest corner of the fort. Ratonhnhaké:ton and Thomas Jefferson's spy Godfrey planted and detonated powder kegs at the tower's base, toppling it and signalling the start of Jefferson's attack on Washington's palace.
