According to mythology, Eris was the only goddess not invited to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis. After arriving, she went into a rage and threw the Apple of Discord - in fact an [[Apples of Eden|Apple of Eden]] - amongst the "goddesses" ([[Minerva]], [[Juno]], and [[Aphrodite]]), marked "To the Fairest", which led to a quarrel between the three. [[Jupiter]] sent the three to [[wikipedia:Paris (mythology)|Paris of Troy]], who chose Aphrodite to be the fairest. As a reward, Aphrodite had [[wikipedia:Helen|Helen]] fall in love with Paris and she moved to Troy, which enraged Helen's husband [[wikipedia:Menelaus|Menelaus]] and led to the Trojan War.
