Date Masamune (5 September 1567 – 27 June 1636) was a powerful daimyo from the Tōhoku region of Japan. He was known for missing one eye, which earned him the nickname "one-eyed dragon". He served both Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu, and was responsible for starting the first Japanese voyage around the world.
