The Cave of the Brave was a cave in Dikte Plateau in Pephka, Greece.

History[edit | edit source]

A natural cave formed in the depths of the Dikte Plateau, next to a building, the cave was discovered and rebranded into the 'Cave of the Brave' by the Latoan businessman Leiandros as part of his enterprise created around the myth of the Minotaur during the 5th century BCE. Leiandros embellished the cave, turning it into a makeshift lair of the 'Minotaur', played by himself in a crude mask and bits and pieces of armor.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra explored the place when she traveled with two other mercenaries, the brothers Ankos and Araxis, to slay the 'Minotaur'. While the mercenaries didn't dare to step a foot into the cave, remaining outside within the ruins, Kassandra explored the depths of the cave, eventually reaching the main cavern, wherein she faced the 'Minotaur' as well as bandits from Zakros, who had been assigned by the Cult of Kosmos to kill any and all glory-seeking champions lured in by Leiandros' act. Kassandra dealt with the bandits, learned the truth of Leiandros' motives, and claimed the valuables within the cave.[1]
