The Broad Axe was a type of battleaxe distinct for its broad and crescent-shaped blade. It was thus used to chop wood and often times as a weapon to chop off heads.
During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra could purchase the axe from blacksmiths or loot it from bodies across Greece.[1]
