Template:WPlocations Bowling Green is a small public park in New York.

History

This was originally made to be a park where people could go and relax; however, in 1770 a statue of King George III was placed here celebrating the repeal of the Stamp Act. One year later a large fence was placed around the park to prevent people from destroying this statue.

In 1776, after the Declaration of Independence was read, people tore down the fence and destroyed the statue using it for musket balls for the Continental Army.

Bowling Green still exists today however the statue of the "Charging Bull" was placed instead.
