Fort Charles is a fort in Port Royal, Jamaica. During the 18th century, it was a Royal Navy military base.

Built circa 1660, it was the only fort in Port Royal to survive the earthquake of 1692,[1][2] and would later play host to the trials of several infamous pirates, such as Anne Bonny, Charles Vane, Edward Kenway, Jack Rackham, and Mary Read. Many of the convicted criminals were executed within the fort.[3]

In 1721, Kenway managed to escape from a gibbet outside the fort, with the help of the Assassin Mentor Ah Tabai, who had come to rescue Anne and Mary. Wishing to help, Edward snuck into the fort and found the two pirates.[3] However, Mary had become seriously ill after childbirth, and died before she could escape.[3][4]
