Built in the heart of what became the "Old Town" of AlUla, the fort known as Musa ibn Nusayr is named after an Arab general and governor who is reported to have died in "Wadi Al-Qura" (the "Valley of Villages"), which AlULa was called in early Islamic times. This small fort occupied the top of an outcrop about fifty meters high, offering an exceptional view of not only the town below but also of the valley for kilometers to the north and south. It is an exceptional position of observation and defense.
