Battus I of Cyrene (d. 600 BCE), also known as Battos, was the founder of the ancient Greek colony of Cyrenaica and its capital Cyrene.
According to legend, Apollo bade him build Cyrene by a sacred spring. That day, he fired an arrow with his bow that pierced the heavens. He also likely had a spear forged for him. He eventually died in 600 BCE and was buried in a tomb in Cyrene.
