I guess it could be explained that he wasn’t fleeing from Ezio (even though to me that’s what it sounds like) but the situation created by Ezio's action (the riots) which could endanger his family. Discover your Legacy vs Rebellion[edit source]
So while not explicit the discover your legacy makes him sound unaffiliated with the assassins due to him fleeing, but I Rebellion does come out with him being a member. I guess it could be explained that he wasn’t fleeing from Ezio (even though to me that’s what it sounds like) but the situation created by Ezio's action (the riots) which could endanger his family.
