Yule or Yuletide was a pagan festival celebrated by Germanic people before being appropriated by Christianity as it spread through Northern Europe. It was celebrated from the start of the December solstice and lasted 11 days.

Circa 874, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir arrived in Jorvik to hunt the members of the Order of the Ancients operating in the region while the city was preparing for the yearly Yule festival.[1] One of the Order members, Jorvik's High Reeve Audun, planned to eliminate the city's nobility during the feast, and secretly poisoned the festival wine. However, his plan was discovered by Eivor and, after Audun revealed his allegiance with a speech about the "new world" he was trying to build, he was assassinated by the shieldmaiden.[2]
Yule festivals were also celebrated at Ravensthorpe.[1]

As part of Assassin's Creed: Valhalla's post-launch content, a Yule festival event was added to the settlement mechanic for a limited time.[3] The first in-game event ran from 16 December 2021 until 6 January 2022, later extended until 27 January.
