Tiberius (Latin: Tiberius Caesar Dīvī Augustī Fīlius Augustus; 42 BCE – 37 CE) was the second Roman Emperor, reigning from 14 CE until his death. Born as Tiberius Claudius Nero, he bore the name Tiberius Julius Caesar before becoming Emperor.

Reign[edit | edit source]
During his reign, the Castra Praetoria was erected by order of the Praetorian Prefect Sejanus to house the nine cohorts of the Praetorian Guard, the influential Imperial guard.[1] Tiberius had also made the act of praising Brutus into a crime worthy of death.[2]
Legacy[edit | edit source]
In 1794, friends of Georges Danton printed an article and several caricatures comparing Maximilien de Robespierre to Tiberius due to them both being considered bloodthirsty dictators.[3]
