The Thibron Expedition Shipwreck was a shipwreck off the eastern coast of Apollonia in Cyrenaica.
During the 1st century BCE, the shipwreck was chosen as a drop-off point for loot by the smuggler ship, Black Crow. In 47 BCE, after learning of the drop-off location from a Roman ship manifest, the Medjay Bayek of Siwa helped Sminthos to recover the loot and deliver it to him.[1]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The name of the wreck is likely a reference to Thibron, a Spartan officer who served Harpalus, the satrap of Babylon under Alexander the Great. Thibron fought and defeated the Cyrenaeans in battle and gained Apollonia as possession.
