The Arch of Septimius Severus (Italian: Arco di Settimio Severio) is a structure that formed part of the Roman Forum.

History[edit | edit source]

Standing at the foot of Capitoline Hill in the Roman Forum, the Arch of Septimius Severus is a triumphal arch commemorating the Parthian victories of the Emperor Septimius Severus.[1]

After Septimius died, his sons Caracalla and Geta shared rule as joint emperors. However, in 212 CE, Caracalla had Geta assassinated and subsequently destroyed all records of Geta's existence, including Geta's image and inscriptions on the arch.[1]

In the 16th century of the Renaissance, during his time to liberate Rome from the Borgia, the Italian Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze visited the Arch.[2]
